Frequently asked questions

How does Psychotherapy help

Psychotherapy mainly looks at how the past has influenced the here and now, helping individuals understand their life choices and consider how they have formed the adult in the here and now. Understanding ourselves more allows us to maintain good mental health, healthy boundaries, relationships, and the world around us.

Therapy can help with understanding triggers to certain situations that create anxiety or anger and helps with gaining a sense of well-being regarding emotional health by understanding the way thoughts can affect feelings.

I help clients understand how to cope differently with anxiety, grief, depression, ADHD, stress, workplace relationships, bullying, and anger management.

It is easy to get stuck in a thought or action; psychotherapy can help you move forward and promote well-being.

I aim to support you in moving towards your true potential.

How does understanding triggers help

Knowing the triggers to specific ways of being, such as anxiety, thinking, or anger, can bring relief and compassion; therapy encourages healthy conversations with others to help them understand and, therefore, gain support and reduce misunderstandings.

How did you become a psychotherapist?

The journey towards Psychotherapy began with one step: travelling the world, understanding and experiencing how different cultures provide for mental health, and observing the unique way each person survives and thrives in the world.

Working as a youth and community worker enabled me to gain insight into family dynamics; continuing into a healthcare role within the NHS allowed me to gain insight into the struggles individuals and families face during diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care.

After leaving the NHS, I trained in psychotherapy at the Manchester Institute and gained extensive knowledge of various mental health issues. Further knowledge gained in a Degree course, Contemporary Approaches within Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, at the University of Derby enables a more integrated approach to problems.

Aims of the therapy

I understand how arriving at therapy to speak to someone you do not know can seem quite daunting; I aim to help you settle into therapy by providing a comfortable, secure, confidential environment to make that a little easier.

Psychotherapy is a highly recognised form of talking therapy recommended by the NHS in treating anxiety, depression, grief, and stress and helping clients to reframe their thinking to find better or different coping strategies.

How I deliver therapy online

As a trained, certified cyber therapist, I can better understand the therapeutic context in the online world. Online therapy provides the presence of a therapist and a confidential environment to discuss issues. Online or phone therapy is known to provide a similar presence to face-to-face therapy. However, if face-to-face is preferable, this is also available.

Feedback

Providing brief feedback can help other clients know how therapy can help them; this can be anonymous, using plain wording and how that benefited you as an individual, relationally or as a group.

Small businesses rely on good feedback.
